In Attics, Insulation is Only Half the Battle

When it comes to attic insulation, many homeowners focus solely on the thickness of the insulation material, overlooking another critical factor: Air leakage. Insufficient sealing can lead to significant energy loss, as every gap in a home's exterior becomes an opportunity for air to leak in and out.

Air leakage can let in more air than an open window, leading to discomfort and higher utility bills. To combat this, our experts prioritize air sealing along with proper insulation to create an airtight barrier that keeps your home comfortable and energy efficient.

Insulation Types at a Glance

As insulation experts, we offer a range of insulation types to suit your needs and budget:

  • Blown-in Cellulose: Cellulose offers the best value for your investment. It provides excellent insulation properties and effectively seals air leaks, making it a popular choice for many homeowners.
  • Closed-Cell Spray Foam:  In limited-depth spaces (box sills, crawl spaces, sloped ceilings), closed-cell spray foam is the go-to solution. Its unmatched insulation value and performance make it a worthwhile investment.
  • Fiberglass: The most budget-friendly option, fiberglass insulation is a commonly used material. However, it may not be as effective as cellulose or spray foam in the long run.
  • Vermiculite: No longer used for insulation, many older homes homes have vermiculite.  If you have vermiculite, you should assume this material may be contaminated with asbestos. We strongly recommend its removal and replacement with a safe option.

Why Cellulose? Similar Cost and Far Better Results

Cellulose attic insulation may come with a slightly higher initial cost compared to fiberglass. However, its superior insulation properties allow most homeowners to recoup the cost difference within 24 months.
In addition to reduced heating bills, benefits include sound control and pest deterrence, making it an excellent choice for homeowners looking to maximize comfort, convenience, and savings.

What Is R50? The Modern Day Standard

R-value is the measurement used when quantifying a specific material’s level of a specific material’s level of thermal resistance. Today's industry standard for attic insulation is R50. We ensure that our cellulose insulation outperforms other R50 insulation, providing you with superior thermal performance and energy efficiency.

Whether you need to upgrade your attic insulation, improve energy efficiency, or lower utility costs, our team of experts is here to help.

As an additional incentive, you may be eligible for rebates through Focus on Energy and the IRA-HOMES energy-savings programs.
